Xander Rai Mendia, 19 year old resident of Eucha, Oklahoma, passed away on September 21, 2020 at Integris Grove Hospital.
Xander was born on June 28, 2001 at Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He was the son of Francis R. Mendia and Cortney (Downing) Mendia. Xander enjoyed playing football during his school years, playing video games, fishing, hunting, swimming, and being outdoors. Xander had a gift from God, he was a very talented composer of songs, and was known for his dancing and singing at Pow Wow’s.
Xander was preceded in death by: Nelly Mae Mendia, Claudina Snake Downing, Sandra Stumblingbear Mendia, Elizabeth Bruner, Murray Red and Sonja Roubideaux, Clarence and Anna Downing, Henry and Evelyn LeRoy, Howard Snake, Howard Sharp, Stanley Sharp and Diana Sue Allen. He is survived by his father Francis (Jennifer), and his mother Cortney Mendia, his significant other Tierra Tanner-Mendia, his daughter Kinslie Claudina Laine Mendia, his sisters: Nazhoni Tsosie, Minnie Tsosie Lena Tsosie, Masiela Mendia, his brothers; Ashkii Stumblingbear, Eli Crowels, Tsakuru Shawnee, Murry Matilda, Marcus and Kysen Mendia, his grandparents; Charlie Bruner, Timmie and Diana Downing, Roni and Cyrus Mendia, Raquel and Teta Mendia, Sean Roubideaux, Larry and Pauline Tsosie, David and Mary Mendia, Janaye Cheevers Toppah, Hyde and Joetta, Chinkman Toppah, and great grandpa, Alfonso Mendia, his uncles: Uncle “Baby” Downing, Kevin LeRoy, Ricky LeRoy, Loren Mendia, Thomas Pettit, Kevin Lee Pettit, Johnny Lee Pettit, and his aunts: Anna Downing, Tillie Mendia and Jennifer Moses and his pahbii Natanii.
Services are scheduled for 12:00 pm, Thursday, September 24, 2020 at White Eagle Cultural Center in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Honoring Xander’s life serving as casket bears will be: Uncle Baby, Ashkii Stumblingbear, Eli Crowels, Kevin LeRoy Sam Downing and Jeremy Downing. Honorary bearers will be Kenny Downing, Ricky LeRoy, Toby Rhoads, Nick Hamilton, Damion Barrett, Tsakuru Shawnee, Jaden Downing and Quinton Downing. Xander will be laid to rest in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery.
