Wilmajeane Gabriel

Lifelong Nowata resident WilmaJeane Gabriel (89) passed from this life at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center Sunday, February 2, 2014. She was born January 7, 1925, to George N. and Laura Ann (Richter) Gabriel. She is a 1942 graduate of Nowata High School. Soon after graduation she took a job at Akright Insurance Agency where she worked for fifty eight years as a bookkeeper. She also kept the books for Wards Clothing Store for ten years, and for thirty eight years was a bookkeeper at Hillside Christian Church. Church was a very important part of WilmaJeane's life. She served the Lord in so many different capacities at Hillside. She played the music for the church for most of her life, as well as serving on so many of the committees. She once said "perhaps God thought I could help in various ways in the church better than I could with a family". In her spare time WilmaJeane enjoyed reading, piddling around, going with friends to a buffet or Braums, and enjoying the scenery of God's beautiful earth. WilmaJeane will be missed by her many friends, but you can be sure she heard the sweetest words she could hear "welcome home my good and faithful servant". Preceding WilmaJeane in death are her parents George and Laura Gabriel; two brothers, George (Everette) Wayne Gabriel, Calvin Christopher Gabriel; a sister, Ruth May Gabriel Ferguson. She is survived by a sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, and other family, mostly all in California; and a host of friends and church family. Funeral services for WilmaJeane Gabriel will be help 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Hillside Christian Church with Ben Killion and Van Longbons officiating.
