Virgil Pearsall

Virgil W. Pearsall, 81-year-old Nowata resident passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007 at his home. Virgil W. Pearsall was born July 5, 1925 in Tempes, Colorado to Roy Ellsworth Pearsall and Marietta Reed-Pearsall. Mr. Pearsall attended school at Diamond Point and then Nowata. He received his Honorary Diploma from Nowata High School on October 8, 2001 making him part of the graduating class of 1943. Mr. Pearsall enlisted in the army on June 5, 1945. He received training in radio operator mechanics and radar operation. He later re-enlisted for overseas duty in the 13th Air Supply Squadron in Tachikawa, Japan where he worked as a clerk typist in the orderly room as Sergeant Major. He was also in charge of re-construction of bombed-out buildings and shipping and receiving for all Japanese areas. During his service and for a short time after, Mr. Pearsall was a boxer. While in the service, he fought to a draw with the #7 ranked boxer in the world. Mr. Pearsall was released from active duty on January 5, 1947 at Camp Beal, California. Upon his return from the service, Mr. Pearsall began work as an electrician. He was a member of the IBEW Local Union #584. Mr. Pearsall was also a Limousin Cattle rancher. In his spare time, Mr. Pearsall enjoyed hunting. He loved deer hunting and also spent a lot of time hunting quail with his English Setter Sadie. Mr. Pearsall is survived by his wife Linda of the home; by three children, David and his wife Carey Pearsall of Nowata, Kim Kester of Nowata, and Gilda Ovalle of Elk City; by one sister, Dee Rogers of Pawhuska; by grandchildren, Amanda and her husband Robby Juby, Cody Pearsall, Kyle Kester, Chad Kester, Tammy and her husband Dean Phelps; by great-grandchildren, Megan Alspach and Mariah Alspach; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Pearsall was preceded in death by his parents; by a daughter, Sharon Alspach; by two sisters, Virginia Inman and Pauline Elkins; and by brothers, Kenneth Pearsall, Brownie Pearsall, Doc Pearsall, Glenn Pearsall, and Reed Pearsall.
