Ted Houck

Ted Monroe Houck, 95, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Jay, went home to be with his Lord at 11:55 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. Ted was born January 28, 1913 in Delaware County, Oklahoma to John C. and Apsia (Blevins) Houck. He was a member of the Cherokee Tribe. On November 13, 1935, he married the love of his life, Nola May Earp at Pineville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on November 30, 1992. After Ted retired from farming, he went to work at the Delaware County Courthouse in Jay as a maintenance man. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Jay Fire Department. He retired again in 1976. In 1990, he and his wife moved to Oklahoma City to be near their son. In addition to his wife and parents, Ted was preceded in death by two brothers, Logan Houck and Howard Houck. Survivors include his son, Tyrone Houck and his wife Henrietta of Oklahoma City, OK; his daughter, Sue Sears and her husband Richard of Ramona, OK; three sisters-in-law, Esther Mae Houck and Maxine Callis both of Jay, OK, and Callie Clanton of Gainesville, FL; five grandchildren, K.D. Vitas of Claremore, OK, Janet Barrett of Grove, OK, Kim McConnell of Joplin, MO, Debbie Jones of Tulsa, OK and Debra Jean Kaufman of Panama City Beach, FL; and one very special friend, Vinita and her son Don and Sheri Kelly of Oklahoma City, OK. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2008 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay. A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Mt. Herman Cemetery, east of Jay, Oklahoma with Rev. Chester Crittenden officiating. Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home of Jay is in charge of arrangements.
