Sybilla Humphrey

Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, OK Sybilla Fern Humphrey, 80, of Nowata, passed away April 23, 2016, in Tuttle, Oklahoma. She was born January 18, 1936 in Senath, Missouri, to Cecil and Effie (Hampton) Miller. She graduated from Senath High School. Sybilla worked as a telephone operator for several years. On September 26, 1965 she married the love of her life, Gordon D. Humphrey. They moved to Nowata in June of 1976 where they made their home since. She loved reading. She would read to her children and grandchildren and had a way of making what she was reading and stories come to life with her voice. She enjoyed playing the piano and sewing. Sybilla played "scrabble" and "words with friends" with her sisters up until she was no longer able to play. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She held a special place in her heart for all of her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. Preceding Mrs. Humphrey in death are her parents, Cecil and Effie Miller, her husband Gordon D. Humphrey, and siblings, Joe Miller, Gerald Miller, Maxie Miller, Cope Miller, Howard Miller, Bobby Miller and Darius Miller. Survivors include her son, Jon Humphrey and wife Chrissie, of Claremore, Oklahoma; a daughter, Rita Johnston and companion Paul Gellenbeck, of Tuttle, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Corey Jordan Humphrey, Andrew Dean Humphrey, Hannah Nicole Humphrey, Abigal Rose Humphrey, Emily Caitlin Johnston, Lorren Bailey Johnston, Justin Dean Gellenbeck; sisters, Mary Hope Flynn, Cynthia LaCroix, both of Loranger, Louisiana, Aquilla Sorrell of Yukon, Oklahoma; many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral Services for Sybilla Humphrey will be held at the Nowata First Church of God, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Burial will follow at 1 p.m., at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Arrangements are entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata.
