Sidney Schiff

Sidney Schiff was born June 9, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Nathan and Ida Schiff. He furthered his education by attending the Illinois Institute of Technology, graduating with a Batchelor's Degree in Organic Chemistry and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University. Sidney and the former Miss Treva Hammond were united in marriage on July 31, 1954 in Monroe, Ohio and they made their first home in Columbus, Ohio. In 1958, Sidney and Treva moved to Bartlesville where he was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company until 1985. At that time, he became employed with CITGO in Tulsa, Oklahoma, retiring in 1992. Sidney and Treva have continued their residence in Bartlesville. Sidney was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bartlesville. He also served as an Elder of the Presbyterian Church, USA, as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma; Sigma Xi; American Chemical Society; Hillcrest Country Club; Ohio State Alumni Association; and the Illinois Institute of Technology Alumni Association. Sidney was an avid sports fan and an almost "rabid" fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. He was actively involved in the local Theatre Guild, having acted in numerous plays and having directed several others. Until his health declined, he religiously attended Bartlesville American Legion Baseball games. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Treva Hammond Schiff of the Bartlesville home; son, Thomas R. Schiff and Dora; daughter, Karen Schiff Blackshare; grandsons, Christopher Blackshare and Joel Schiff; granddaughters, Kyla Blackshare, Sydney Schiff, Lauren Berry and Whitney Berry; brother and sister-in-law, David Schiff and his wife, Ruth; five brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
