Ruby Sonnenfeld

Ruby was born June 8, 1931 at Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Samuel Paul Gray and Hazel Josephine (Carlile) Gray. She grew up in Tahlequah, attended Tahlequah schools and later graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State University with a double major in music and English and a teaching certificate. She married Calvin Booth Purdum on June 7, 1952 at Tahlequah. The Purdums moved to Havana, Kansas and then to Dewey, Oklahoma, where Ruby spent 35 years as a school teacher. Mr. Purdum preceded his wife in death on June 10, 1999. Ruby would later marry Dr. Richard J. Sonnenfeld on May 7, 2005 at Bartlesville, where the couple continued to make their home. Ruby was a Charter Member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. The church and her church family were always a significant part of Ruby's life. She was a life-long, active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She was a member of the NEA and OEA. Ruby always had a passion for music; she played the piano often, was a member of the church choir, and belonged to the Music Research Society.
