Robert Lightfoot Sr.

Robert Raymond "Bob" Lightfoot, Sr. died Tuesday February 8, 2011 at Emeritus Senior Living, formerly known as Brighton Gardens, in Tulsa. He was born September 14, 1925 in the Kelso District, northeast of Vinita, to Sidney Ray and Louise (Rudisill) Lightfoot. Bob graduated from Bluejacket High School in 1944. He served his country in the Army during World War II from 1944 to 1947 (Europe) and again during the Korean War. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Maurine Catherine Darnell, on March 29, 1945 in Vinita; Maurine preceded him in death in 2008. He moved from his farm north of Vinita to Bartlesville in 1953 to take employment with Cities Service and was transferred to Sour Lake, Texas in 1956, where he lived until he was transferred to Tulsa in 1967. In 1991, Bob and Maurine retired to the farm where he grew up near Vinita and tended cattle. In 2005, they moved to Vinita to "fully retire" and spend more time with friends and family. Bob was baptized into the RLDS church while in Bartlesville and served in the priesthood the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Vinita and a retired Evangelist. He was also active as a volunteer in the community. Bob was a former member of the Optimist Club and a volunteer Fireman in Sour Lake, Texas, as well as a member of the Cattleman's Association in Vinita. His family includes children Karen Lightfoot-Smalley and husband Jim Smalley of Muskogee, Katherine de la Garza and husband John of Richardson, Texas, Robert Raymond "Bud" Lightfoot, Jr. of Tulsa; grandchildren Greg Huey of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Dawn Anderson of Oklahoma City, Carisa Ramming of Tulsa, Jamie Mungle of Oklahoma City, and Gabriela de la Garza of Richardson; great-grandchild Brooklyn Woods of Oklahoma City; and son-in-law Mike Huey of Bristow. He was preceded in death by his wife Maurine, daughter Elaine Huey, grandchild Jesse Huey, and sisters Edna White and Ruby Harp. The memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday April 9, 2011 at the Community of Christ Church in Vinita with Don Goettel officiating. Interment and Military Rites will be held at the Pheasant Hill Cemetery northeast of Vinita. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
