Rex Manning

Springdale, Arkansas Rex Leon Manning, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Sunday August 20, 2006 in Springdale, Arkansas. He was 85 Rex was born February 21, 1921, in Southwest City, Missouri, to Charles and Lydia (Lancaster) Manning. Rex graduated from Southwest City High School in 1938 and was the valedictorian of his graduating class. He was a life long learner and had a particular love for the English Language. Rex enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and writing poetry, and his "New word each day" calendar. He was an avid scrabble player, with his dictionary at his side ready to challenge a questionable word. Rex spent his life working as a farmer...an extremely hard working farmer. He had a love for the land, particularly the land that he owned. He viewed himself as a caretaker of that land. Rex also spent time performing carpentry work during the construction of Camp Crowder and other military camps. Rex married Clyta Hopkins on April 25, 1943. She preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters; Lee Long and her husband Steve along with their children Stephanie and David, of Rogers, Arkansas, and Ann McCrury and her husband Phillip of Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Manning is also survived by one sister, Madge McGraw, of Kansas City, Missouri, and one special niece, Glenna Barnes, of Anderson, Missouri. Services will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at 10:00 am, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Grove, Oklahoma. Brother Raleigh Lane will officiate and Jim Casey will provide special music. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in Anderson, Missouri.Visitation will take place between 6pm and 7pm on Tuesday, August 22, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.
