Paul Galvin

Paul Henry Galvin, a lifetime resident of Vinita, OK passed away Thursday March 3, 2011 at his home. Born of Lucy May Bigknife and Raymond Anthony Galvin on September 5, 1950 in Vinita, OK. Paul attended Sacred Heart Academy then graduated Vinita High School. . He was decorated Viet Nam disabled veteran and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze Star with the Designation "V" for Valor, a rare designation The Vietnam Service Medal, Expert Rifle, The Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Paul was an avid fly fisherman and sportsman. He was one of approximately six people in the United States if not the world that made their own fly rods. This is a tedious process requiring patience, time and skill that few have mastered. Paul ordered the bamboo for his rods from China making them rare. Paul's rods bear his unique signature mark. To own one is a privilege. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Raymond Anthony Galvin, Jr., Samuel George, and Stephen Mark. Three sisters, Loretta Ann Essex, Mary Katherine Howard and Julia Elizabeth Haynes. Suvivors include: sisters Stella Blondin of Fayetteville, N.C., Lucy and husband John Shackelford of Tulsa, Judy Simmons of Tulsa, Edwina and husband, Jim Hoskin of Cleora, Ok, and Josie and husband Tim Driskill of Tulsa, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 8, 2011 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church at 10:00 with Fr. Alex Kennedy officiating with interment at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
