Opal Maxine Huffman, 81, of Nowata, passed away at Ascension St. Johns Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, June 29, 2020. She was born in Stilwell, Oklahoma to James E. Sr. and Cora Lucille (Pruett) Griggs on May 1, 1939. In the 1940’s Opal and her family moved to Nowata and she graduated from Nowata High School. She moved to Monahans, Texas and then back to Nowata in 1970. Opal’s work career included various secretarial positions but for several years she owned an insurance agency in Nowata. She was a member of the Watova Full Gospel Christian Center where she was very involved. Opal enjoyed fishing and playing cards with her nieces and nephews. She composed many poems for family and friends, as well as commemorating events taking place around the country. Opal also enjoyed reading. Her passion was singing! She was in a trio with her brother and sister. She loved her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Huffman was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucille Griggs; her husband’s Raymond Standeford, and Delos Huffman; her beloved son Tony Standeford; a brother Carl Griggs; a niece, Elaine Griggs Hope; and a nephew, Brian Deason.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law Yasmin Standeford Majors and husband Wayne of Bartlesville; grandchildren, Abigail Passapera, Claudia Faith Standeford; great grandchild, Santiago; sister, Shirley Deason and husband J.D. of Bartlesville; brothers, Jim Griggs and wife Debbie of Neosho, Missouri, David Griggs and wife Lynn of Talala; a sister-in-law Dee Griggs of Seminole, Oklahoma; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Opal Huffman will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2020 at Watova Full Gospel Christian Center with Pastor Chuck Brown and Joe Goodin officiating. There will be no Graveside Services and No Family Dinner. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Watova Full Gospel Christian Center or Gideons International.
