Olbert "Sonny" Leroy Wickliffe

Olbert Leroy Wickliffe (Sonny) passed away June 3^rd, 2023 while residing at Grand Lake Villa in Grove, OK. He was born March 22^nd, 1938 in Kenwood, OK to his parents Charley Wickliffe and Fannie Hedrick Wickliffe. 

Sonny attended grade school in Kenwood then graduated from Jay High School. He resided almost all his life in Kenwood enjoying the peaceful, quiet country setting.  Sonny worked various jobs throughout his working career including construction, machinist, and forklift operator. After retiring he ran a wood yard and cut wood for many years. Sonny enjoyed raising and selling chickens, goats, pigs, and coon hounds. He said his most favorite times were out in the woods in the dark, coon hunting. Sonny coon hunted with many people throughout the years, both young and old.  Sony was an avid reader.  He read everything he could get his hands on. He had a wealth of knowledge.  He would often read his mother’s old King James Bible, and he would share stories of his life growing up and family history. He enjoyed sitting outside in the fresh air, visiting with friends and family. He loved his nieces and nephews very much and really enjoyed laughing and teasing them.  He had many good friends throughout the years. Wherever he went he would run into someone he knew, either from coon hunting, selling wood, chickens, pigs, goats or coon hounds.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents Charley and Fannie, brothers Otis and Leon, sisters Patsy, Betty and Lois as well as many other family members.

Sonny is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Thursday June 8, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Worley Lugibuel Funeral Home in Jay, OK. Funeral Services will held at Euwasha Church in Salin, Oklahoma at 11am on June 9, 2023. Services are under the care of Worley- Luginbuel Funeral Home of Jay, Oklahoma.
