Mollie M. Shields, age 91 and former resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on May 15, 2019 in the Jamestown Health & Rehab Center in Rogers, Arkansas.
Mollie Mae Shaffer was born on May 27, 1927 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was the daughter of Daniel Ambrose Shaffer and Della Mae Price. She grew up in Wichita Falls where she received her early education.
In 1945, Mollie and Joe Wilcox were married and they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where she continued her lifetime commitment to the Salvation Army which originally first started in Wichita Falls, Texas. In the Army, she was under the command of Captain Wixon, Captain Pertain, Major Courtois and Major Davis. She served fulltime as Youth Director, Teenage Bible Study (Corp. Cadets), Girl Guard and Sunbeam Leader, Home League (Women’s Club) and many other departments.
Mollie was employed at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville in the Nursing Department from December 1963 to December 1979. During this time, she married James Lawson Shields and moved to Bentonville, Arkansas. She was employed in Bentonville at Bates Memorial Hospital from 1979 to 1986. After retirement from the hospital, she worked as a Home Health-Care Nurse.
Mollie is survived by her great-granddaughter, Peggy “P.J.” Resendiz of Little Rock, Arkansas, and two great-great-grandchildren, Gonzalo Antonio and Ava Marie also of Little Rock; sister, Louise Covington of Wichita Falls, Texas; Jim, Barbra and Shae Zalenski, close family friends; two granddaughters; and several more great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Della Shaffer; spouse, Jim Shields; daughter, Lynette Wilcox in 2005; and three sisters and six brothers.
Services for Mrs. Shields will be held on Friday, May 31, at 1:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Officiating will be Mr. Bryan Brinlee of the Salvation Army. Pallbearers will be Tiff Covington, Jim Zalenski and James Shaffer. Entombment will follow the service in the mausoleum at White Rose Cemetery.
