Mary Johnson

Mary Elizabeth Johnson, "Ma" 94, Afton, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday September 17, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at home in Afton surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Mankato, Minnesota, on October 30, 1916 to John Wesley Hinkle and Mary (Rottink) Hinkle. Mary married Bill H. Johnson in Kansas City, Missouri in 1942, he passed away on March 19,1973. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family helping to raise her grandkids with her daughter Betty and her husband John Roach. Mary's grandkids were always intrigued how when they laid their wallets down money magically appeared in them. Mary loved cooking, especially for big family gatherings. She also enjoyed helping her grandson Rick with his parts store. She lived her life for her family, being completely devoted to each and every one. If it was a helping hand she lent it, or a listening ear she gave it. One family member quoted: "Most people consider their life success by the information that is placed in their obituary of how they earned their money or fame, but if I can ever in my life have as many people love and care me half as much as we do for Ma, that will have proudly been my greatest life success." Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bill H. Johnson; her parents, John & Mary Hinkle; and three brothers, John Hinkle, Earl Hinkle, and Francis Hinkle. Mary is survived by her daughter, Betty Roach and husband John of Afton, Oklahoma; one sister, Opal Bruton of Springfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday September 20, 2011at 2:00 pm at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Grove, Oklahoma. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Monday September 19, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
