Funeral Services for Marvin L. Culver are 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata, Oklahoma with OHP Chaplain Sam Garner and David Ray officiating. Interment will follow at the Winganon Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service. Online condolences can be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Family has asked that memorials be sent to the American Heart Association. Marvin Culver, 63, of Nowata, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. He was born on March 10, 1948 to James and Betty (Aten) Culver in Enid, Oklahoma. Marvin graduated from Enid High School and continued his education at Phillips University where he earned a degree in history. He continued his education at the University where he graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. In 1973, Marvin graduated from the 31st OHP Academy and started his career as an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman. In October of 1981 he married Lyndall Stephens in Miami, Oklahoma. They moved to Nowata in 1981 from Owasso where he served in the OHP until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served on the transportation committee and enjoyed taking care of the church vans and driving for the senior group on their outings. Marvin loved his family and enjoyed setting up the water playground for the children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He always had a smile and would wave at everyone. His girls talked about how they would ask if he knew who he was waving at and he would say no and then wave even bigger. One of his favorite hobbies turned out to be his ministry. He spent many hours decorating cards and sending them to people. He loved to take a card and make it a work of art to send to others. His family and co-workers said he must know where every post office in Oklahoma is because he was always looking for one to mail a card from. He also became a nationally known diamond hunter when he found the Okie Dokie diamond in Arkansas. He was invited to New York to be on the morning talk shows to tell about his find. Marvin was a very special public servant that even after his retirement from the OHP continued to do things for others. He was always willing to help anyone any way he could. He will be missed by his wife, children, family, and everyone that knew him. Marvin is preceded in death by his father, James Culver. Marvin is survived by his mother, Betty Culver of Enid Oklahoma; his wife Lyndall Culver of the home; four children, Richard Shawn Culver and wife Peggy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Libbie LeClaire and husband Jason, Susie Culver, and Annie Culver, all of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one brother Duane Culver and his wife Charlotte and their son Kyle of Enid, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Ethan Culver, Andrew Culver, Paige Wagner, Samantha Culver, Kaitlynn LeClaire, Brenna LeClaire, Hunter LeClaire, Kayla Culver, Leah Culver.
