Marvin Armstrong

Marvin Lavern Armstrong, 89, Retired US. Air Force and United Airlines, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at his home in Bartlesville. Marvin was born on February 2, 1921 in Wann, Oklahoma the son of Paul Armstrong and Edith (Smith) Armstrong. He was raised and educated in the Wann area and attended Coffeyville Junior College one year before enlisting in the United States Army Air Core just before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and was trained to be an Aircraft Mechanic serving as crew chief on B-17 bombers in England. He served 20 years before retiring. Marvin was united in marriage to Lilian Armstrong in England while serving in the service, they made their home in many places and settled in California, she preceded him in death. Marvin's second career was with United Airlines as an aircraft mechanic and he retired with more that 20 years of service. In 2009 he moved back to Bartlesville to be close to family. Marvin loved camping, fishing and bowling. He was known for his willingness to be of service to his fellow neighbors. He will be dearly missed. Marvin is survived by two sisters, Lois Armstrong Price and her husband Bill of Bartlesville and Lorene Swanson-Wilson and her husband Jack of Lenapah, OK, one brother Bob Armstrong and his wife Peggy of Coffeyville, Kansas. He is preceded in death by one son, Gerald Armstrong, his parents and two brothers, Harold and Loyd Armstrong. Memorial service's will be announced at a later date.
