Martha Maddux

Martha Ann (Chappell) Maddux, 87, of Nowata died at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on Friday, October 25, 2013. She was born December 20, 1925 to Judge Glenn H. and Maude E. Chappell in Nowata, Oklahoma. She graduated from Nowata High School in 1942 and attended Oklahoma A&M College and Oklahoma College for women. She married Bill Maddux on May 30, 1946. After college and Bill's tour of duty in the Army during the Korean War they returned to Nowata and made their home where he practiced law and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Martha was a lifetime member of the Nowata United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, travel, entertaining, playing bridge and more recently playing Mexican Trash Train Dominoes with her friends Janet Berry, Joyce Reid, Bimi Hicks, and Ruth Ann Faulkner. She was a loving wonderful wife and mother who doted on her children and grandchildren and she will be forever missed by them. Martha is survived by her husband Bill of the home; two sons, Bill and his wife Rennie of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Mark and wife Tammy of Nowata; four grandchildren, Glenn a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma, now residing in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Will of Nowata who is attending Oklahoma City Community College, Nina a freshman at the University of Georgia and Chappell a sophomore at Porter Gaud High School in Charleston, South Carolina. Martha loved her home but she was a true people person who loved everyone and was loved by everyone, especially her husband. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Nowata with Pastor Cheryl Newton officiating. Services have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service Friends who wish may make a contribution to The First United Methodist Church of Nowata in her memory.
