Lula Alsop

Lula Rae Alsop, 75 year old Jay, Oklahoma resident passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at Monroe Manor. She was born in Craig County, Oklahoma on July 25, 1936 to Jim and Marie (Smith) West. Lula graduated in 1954 from Edna High School and attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. She worked as a secretary for Midland Construction in Independence, Kansas, and retired from Muller Construction in Coffeyville, Kansas. Lula married Charles Hilderbrand on December 24, 1958. They later divorced. She later married Leroy Alsop on July 25, 1978 in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death. Lula was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Jay, OK. She loved to watch the Gaither Vocal Band. She enjoyed shopping, making earrings and doing beadwork. Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Alsop. Lula is survived by one daughter, Debbie Doherty of Jay, Oklahoma; three sons, Clinton Hilderbrand and wife Chris of Edna, Kansas, Jeff Hilderbrand and wife Lea of Edna, Kansas, and Jimmy Dunsing of Coffeyville, Kansas; three grandsons, Justin, Brandon and Blake; three granddaughters, Keri, Stevie, and Racey; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at New Hope Baptist Church in Jay, Oklahoma with Reverend Dan Newton officiating. Lula will be laid to rest in the Duffield Cemetery in Jay, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends and relatives at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Jay, Oklahoma from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
