Liberty Illingsworth

Liberty "Libby" Isla Illingsworth 89, of Nowata went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday at 5:15 am September 17, 2009. Liberty was born on July 4, 1920 in Delaware, Oklahoma to Lyle and Gladys (Willis) Calvert. She attended Delaware Public Schools but graduated from Childers High School. Libby married James Louis Illingsworth in 1938, they had one daughter, Betty Lou Illingsworth. Libby worked in the Childers school cafeteria during the 50's. In 1958 with the passing of her husband, George, Libby began working at a local nursing home. She cooked for a local restaurant until 1970 when she became a cook & nutritionist for the Nowata General Hospital until her retirement in the late 1980's. Libby was a very kind hearted, generous, caring Christian woman, but most of all she was a loving mother and an adoring grandmother. She devoted her life to Jesus Christ and was a very compassionate and special member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Broken Arrow, OK. Libby enjoyed quilting, gardening, working cross word puzzles, cooking meals for her family and friends, and she always enjoy reading a good mystery novel. Libby was very talented, she wrote numerous country gospel songs and enjoyed singing. Her favorite time of the year was Holidays because that meant she could spend countless hours with her family singing Christmas songs. She loved church, Jesus Christ and her family most in this world. Libby is survived by her daughter Betty Lou Carrington-McLennan and beloved son-in-law Lyndon G. "Slim" McLennan of Broken Arrow, 1 grandson Jeff Carrington and his wife Betty S. Carrington, 3 great grandchildren Brooke Nichole Carrington, Jeremy Elledge, and Nathan Hindman, 4 great great grandchildren Aura Dawn Elledge, Thane Hindman, Jaxon Hindman, and Devany Hindman, 1 brother Joe Calvert and his wife Pat of Denver, Colorado, nephew Jerry Calvert and his wife Julie of Arizona, and Niece Judy Calvert of Denver, CO., a sister-in-law Fern Barrowman, a nephew Fred W. Barrowman, niece Vicky, nephew Bob Gaut and numerous other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband James Louis "George" Illingsworth, her parents Lyle and Gladys Calvert, 1 brother Bill Calvert and, a niece Billy Denise Calvert and a nephew Bobby Calvert. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Nowata (corner of Pine & Modoc) with Pastor Glenn Davis officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mrs. Illingsworth in the Ball Cemetery in Childers, Oklahoma. Visitation and viewing times will be held on Friday, September 18th from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Benjamin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Libby's name be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 2602 S. Elm Pl., Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
