ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK (918) 336-5225 - Leroy Bacon, age 97 and Bartlesville resident, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, in the Heritage Villa Nursing Center. Leroy Bacon was born December 5, 1919. He was the son of Lawton and Ollie Mae (Kaiser) Bacon. Leroy married Myrtle Irene Gardner on May 13, 1940 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Irene preceded Leroy in death in 2013. The couple had been married 73 years. Leroy served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945-1946. He served overseas in the Philippines and Japan with Troop A, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He participated in the Leyte and Luzon Campaigns. Leroy and Irene lived in Washington county most of their life. They built, owned and operated the Kart Center of Bartlesville. They also owned and operated the Suwanee Courts and Suwanee Lounge. He worked many years at Hillcrest Country Club with the grounds crew until his retirement. Leroy and Irene enjoyed many things, especially music. He played the fiddle and guitar alongside of Irene playing the Dobro. They loved making music with family and friends. They both loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting and gardening. Together, they made an annual pheasant hunting trip to Chamberlain, South Dakota for over 40 years. Many times they hauled their mules to South Dakota and hunted off the mules. Survivors include son, Ted Bacon of Afton, Oklahoma; daughter, Donna Sharp and her husband, Mike, of Bartlesville; grandchildren, Jolynn Bacon of Bartlesvillle, Lisa McGraw and her husband, Danny, of Las Vegas, NV, Bill Bacon also of Las Vegas, Doyle Brookshire and his wife, Gail, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Leon Bacon and his wife, Kelly, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 15 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Bacon and his wife, Bessie, of Collinsville, Oklahoma; sister, Retha Ringer of Ramona; and many nieces and nephews. Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents; one son, Donald L. Bacon; three brothers, Walter Bacon, Emery Bacon and Melvin Bacon; two sisters, Lorene Maxey and Bernadine Boyd; and a great-grandson, Danny J. McGraw. Come and go visitation will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Friends Church, Ramona. Rev. Mark Wright will officiate. Interment will follow the service in the Ramona Cemetery where military rites will be accorded. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.honoringmemories.com.
