Lavon Young

LaVon Young LaVon died Thursday April 5, 2007 at the Integris Grove General Hospital, she was 84. LaVon was born August 4, 1922 to Jeptha Austin, and Lizzie (Chandler) Miller at Warwick, Ok. She lived in Guthrie, Ok. before moving to Grove on May 14, 1961 when she married Donald Young. Her husband Don was the first golf pro at Shangri-La Resort at Monkey Island, Ok. LaVon was instrumental in starting the Ladies Golf League at Shangri-La and also at the Miami Country Club, Miami, Ok. She was one of the oldest members of Shangri-La receiving a lifetime membership. LaVon was a member of the Eastern Star, P.E.O., and the First United Methodist Church at Grove, Ok. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters. Survivors include one son, Chuck Gibson and wife Charlene of Tulsa, Ok., One daughter, Linda Corlett and husband Bob of Monkey Island, Ok., and one step-son, Ron Young of New York City, N.Y. Four grandchildren: Cheryl Hasting and husband Mark, Charlotte Cook, and husband Brian, Benee` Masri and husband Rami, and Stacey Hanley and husband Patrick. Ten great grandchildren: Conner, Preston, and Owen Hasting, Emily and Brandon Cook, Bobby Tarik, Trey Masri, Nate and Abby Hanley. Two nieces Darla Maley, and Carmen Banks.
