Juanita Chapman

September 15, 1921 — September 26, 2009

Juanita Jewell Roberts Chapman went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2009, in Dallas, Texas, at age 88. She was born September 15, 1921, in Ranger, Texas, to Jonah Stillman and Dollie Cordelia Roberts. She grew up in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma, and attended Oklahoma State University, where she met her husband, John Harold Chapman. They were married on Christmas Day 1941. Following Harold's service in World War II, they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where they raised their family. Nita was a devoted wife and mother to her three girls and later to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a deacon at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, sang in the church choir, and was also active in Christian Women's Fellowship, sewing club, and several bridge clubs. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making beautiful clothes for her daughters. Later in life, her greatest joy was being "Grandma Nini" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a dear friend to many; all who knew her were blessed by her sweet smile and loving spirit. Nita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Chapman, in 1987, two sisters, Edna McGee and Kathryn Fitzgerald, and one brother, Wayne Roberts. She is survived by her three daughters, Suzanne Lawson and husband David, Kathy Wilson and husband Barry, and Becky VanValkenburg and husband Phil; seven grandchildren, Heather Lawson, Mike Lawson and wife Meghan, Lindsay Wilson Brown and husband Jody, Matt Wilson, Lori Wilson, Emily VanValkenburg Ulmer and husband Travis, and Nathan VanValkenburg; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Molly Ulmer; her brother Jonah Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at a Visitation on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held on Friday morning at Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 520 S. Osage. Memorials can be made to First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, P. O. Box 1177, Bartlesville, OK 74005, or to the charity of your choice. Absent from the body, at home with the Lord. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
