John Turowski

John J. Turowski, 85, a lifelong resident of Bartlesville, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008 at his home. John was born to Stanley and Helen (Kazmierzak) Turowski on June 28, 1923 in Bartlesville. He was raised and educated in Bartlesville and enlisted in the U.S. Army-Core during his Senior year of High School. He served during World War II with the 1876 Engineer Aviation Battalion seeing action in the Phillipines and New Guinea. John and Ellen Paul were united in marriage on December 31, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas. They have enjoyed 61 years of marriage. John was employed as a Plant Operator with National Zinc in Bartlesville and retired in 1987 with forty one years of service. John enjoyed many activities during his retirement including riding his bike, tinkering in his garage, reading and spending quality time with his grandchildren. He loved traveling throughout the United States and attending U.S. Army Reunions. John attended the American Legion Baseball Glen Winget Tournament every year for 37 straight seasons. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Bartlesville. John is survived by his wife, Ellen Turowski of the home, two sons, Larry Turowski and his wife Denise and Steve Turowski and his wife Charlotte, Five Grandchildren and One Great Grandson, two sisters, Frances Tate and Sue Clark, one brother Don Turowski and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, three brothers, Bill, Raymond and Bob, two sisters, Margaret and Alice Skalicky. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 12, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Dennis Voth of the First Christian Church will be officiating. Full military rites will be accorded Mr. Turowski by the American Legion Post 105. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
