John Jones

John W. Jones, 82, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center. John W. Jones was born at the home of his parents Rufus D. Jones and Edna (Rickard) Jones in Taylor, Texas on February 4, 1927. He attended grade school near his home and attended high school in Coupland, Texas. John graduated with the class of 1944. He enlisted in the Navy in February, 1945 at San Antonio, Texas and did boot camp and radar school at San Diego, California. John was assigned to a destroyer until he was discharged in July of 1946. John entered the University of Texas in September 1946 and graduated with a Business Administration degree in July of 1949. He began working for The Railroad Commission of Texas in November 1949 and married Elizabeth "Betty" Sitman on November 11, 1949. She preceded him in death on December 7, 1981. In December of 1951 John was employed by Phillips Pipeline Company in Alvin, Texas where he worked until 1956 when he moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he retired August 1, 1985. John married Letty Warner on December 30, 1995 and they lived in Bartlesville. He was a charter member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church in Bartlesville, the Oak Park Lions Club and was active with the Boy Scouts for several years. He is survived by his wife Letty Jones of the home, two son's Robert David Jones and wife Joy and Charles Jones and wife Debra, step daughter Kathy Velander, one granddaughter Alanna Kathleen Morrison, two step grandchildren Christie Shaffer and Joe Shaver, three step great grandchildren Nichloas Shaffer, Aryitiana Shaver and Brendon Shaver. John was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Jones, parents, brother Carl Jones, sisters Dorothy Stewart and Mildred Buck. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at the Oak Park United Methodist Church, 601 NW Brentwood Dr., Bartlesville, Ok 74003. Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2009 in the Oak Park United Methodist Church. Rev. David Stewart of the Oak Park United Methodist Church, will preside over the services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
