John Coyne

John Lawrence "Tige" Coyne, 98 year-old life time Vinita-Centralia resident died at his home on Monday, September 8, 2008. He was born November 22, 1909 in Centralia to James Joseph and Isabelle (Thomas) Coyne. Tige married Fern Colton on July 8, 1936 in Claremore. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Vinita. Tige was a farmer-stockman, and had also worked on the Will Rogers Turnpike construction, for Craig County as a road maintainer and Eastern State Hospital for several years. He loved taking care of his cattle, fishing, hunting, dancing, playing cards, and was a good baseball player on the county ball team for many years. Tige worked in the hayfield until he was 96 years-old. The family includes: his wife Fern of the home, two sons Jim Coyne of Vinita, and Joe Coyne and wife Diane also of Vinita. His grandchildren are Lisa Hall, Lori Shields, Elizabeth Nottingham, Jennifer Green, Sarah Johnson, Matt and Kali Boyd. Great-grandchildren are Jessica Crupper, Brannon Roberts, Blake, Cody and Dalton Johnson, Eric Guinn, Emerson Green, Garrett and Aubrie Shields, and one great-great-grandchild Dylon Nottingham. Those preceding him in death include his parents, a son Lawrence Lee (Duncan) Coyne, brothers and sisters, Oleta "Whistle" Way, Patrick "Pat" Coyne, Ibby Jane "Sis" Coyne, James "Red" Coyne, Catherine "Katy" Coyne, Johanner "Babe" Coyne, Thomas "Pood" Coyne, and Joseph "Joe" Coyne. The Rosary will be held Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Luginbuel Chapel. The funeral mass will be held Friday, September 12, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Father Alex Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
