Joel Meadows

Joel Dee (Jody) Meadows, age 91 passed from this life on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, with his family at his side. Jody was born on May 19, 1920, near Grove, OK, to the union of Joseph Perry Meadows and Viola (George) Meadows. The third of eight children, he began farming with his dad using teams of horses and mules. He married Maxine Walker of Jay, OK, on December 18, 1939, and together they had six children. He was a farmer and rancher near Grove all of his life and was a member of First Baptist Church in Grove, OK. He had a passion for working the land and raising cattle. He also loved to hunt. Jody was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; his parents, Joseph and Viola Meadows; two brothers, Truman Meadows and Robert Meadows; two sons, Larry Gene Meadows and Joel Wayne (JW) Meadows; and three grandchildren, Kay Woods, of Jay, OK, Gene Gardner, of Grove, OK, and Preston Henshaw of North Carolina. He is survived by three sisters, Lillie Baty and husband Perry, Lou Hardesty, and Jane Mahurin; two brothers, John Wiley Meadows and Franklin Meadows; four daughters, Mary Lee Ritchie and husband Denny of Grove, OK, Charlotte Henshaw and husband Jerry of Port St Lucie, FL, Elaine Gardner and husband Mark of Grove, OK, and Sandra Shaffer and husband Thurman of Bluejacket, OK; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Jody will be held on his 92nd birthday, Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Church in Grove, OK. Interment to follow at Olympus Cemetery in Grove, OK.
