ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK (918) 336- 5225 - James M. "Jim" Clingenpeel, age 87, a long-time resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away in Bartlesville, on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. Jim was born in September 1929 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Jim, who was known as "Bud", grew up in Stillwater, before moving to Prague, and later, to Stilwell with his parents. After his father died in 1943, Jim finished high school in Stilwell and completed his freshman year of college at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He then enlisted in the Army in 1947. While in the Army, he taught medical technicians while stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He stayed in the Army for a year and a half and then enrolled at the University of Kansas. Ultimately, he finished his chemistry/ education degree at Northeastern in 1952. After college, Jim worked as a chemist in the research lab at Skelly Oil Company in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Jim worked at Skelly for eleven years and then joined the Bureau of Mines (later to become the Department of Energy) in Bartlesville. After the Bureau closed, he worked for NIPER (National Institute of Petroleum and Energy Research) until his retirement in 1989. In August of 1953, Jim married Georgia Samantha "Sammie" Kerby in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Jim and Sammie had one child, James Alan. Jim and Sammie loved fishing, camping and traveling. Many trips were made to national parks with friends and family. Jim's passion was Boy Scouts. He was one of the founding leaders of Troop 114 at Oak Park United Methodist Church and over 30- some years, ushered boys into adulthood with overnight campouts, trips to Philmont and summer camp. Over 30 boys attained their Eagle rank. Jim was a member of the Order of the Arrow, a Woodbadge graduate and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his service in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a long-time active member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church, the Green Country Lions Club and the Oak Park Community Association. Jim is survived by Sammie, his wife, of 63 years; son, Alan Clingenpeel (Lisa) of Hot Springs, Arkansas and four grandchildren: Will Clingenpeel (Katy) of Columbus, Indiana, Guthrie Clingenpeel (Lauren) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Lindsay Sellers (Shawn) of Benton, Arkansas, and Casey Cline of Pearcy, Arkansas; and six great grandchildren (Gideon, Justus, Mara, Anna and Elena Clingenpeel, and Resi Sellers); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Gideon Clingenpeel and Leona Jewell (Brock) Clingenpeel; and one sister, Patricia Legh-Jones. Remembrances may be made to Oak Park United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Cherokee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Come and go visitation will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 1-6:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Services for Jim will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Oak Park United Methodist Church, 601 N.W. Brentwood Dr. Rev. Don Jones will be the officiant. Burial will be at 1:30 PM in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites at the gravesite. Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore and Neekamp Funeral Home.
