Glenn Moore

Surrounded by his family, Glenn Curtis Moore, passed away at his home in Nowata on September 26, 2009 at the age of 84. Glenn was born March 9, 1925 to Dewey and Cleo (McCracken) Moore in Pryor, Oklahoma. Glenn was a veteran of WWII, serving as pilot with the Army Air Corp. He flew the P-47 on 118 combat missions over Germany, Italy, and Sicily with the 525th fighter squadron. After the war he continued to serve his country in the Air Force Reserves retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He attended Oklahoma State University receiving both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Education. He taught one year in Bowie, Texas before being hired by Nowata Public Schools. Later, Glenn decided to obtain another Master's Degree in Administration from Tulsa University. He served in the Nowata School System for over thirty years first as a teacher, then as a middle and high school principal and finally 18 years as Superintendent of Schools. Upon his retirement the elementary school was renamed Glenn C. Moore Elementary, an honor of which he was very proud. It was also in Nowata that he met and married his wife Dorothy (Lawrence) Moore. Glenn was an active member of the Lion's Club and the Methodist Church. In his retirement, he had more time to play golf, go flying, go fishing in Canada with his friends, help with community projects, and cheering on the Ironmen at athletic activities. The one thing he enjoyed most besides spending time with Dorothy was raising and racing horses in partnership with his daughters. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Cleo; one sister, Beverly Boston; one great nephew, Michael Boston, and the love of his life, his wife Dorothy. Glenn is survived by his daughters Ann of Vinita and Gena of Nowata; one brother-in-law, Jim Boston of Pryor; two nephews, Jimmy Boston of Adair and Bob Boston of Vinita, several cousins, three great nephews, one great niece, two great, great nieces, one great, great nephew, his caregivers, Christie Spencer, Tammie Hash, Chris Morton, Mary Kellogg, Angela Walters and his many friends. One of his favorite comments was "I have had a wonderful wife and daughters and a wonderful life." The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Parkinson's Research, 1033 Wheelchair Van, The Nowata Public Library, Nowata School Band or your favorite charity. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 10:00a.m. in the Nowata First United Methodist Church. Rev. James Perkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery of Nowata. The family will receive guest at the Benjamin Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-8pm.
