Geneva Young

Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, 918-256-5555 Geneva (Garveston) Young, 76 year old resident of Cleora, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at her home after a courageous five year battle with Cancer. She was born on August 11, 1940 in Kiowa, Kansas to Ethern Lee and Violet Melvina (Skinner) Garveston. The family later moved to Atoka, Oklahoma where Geneva graduated high school. On July 25, 1967, she married Jerry R. Young, Sr. at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa. In 1971 Geneva started a child care business out of her home and developed a true passion for caring for children. Out of this initial business came "Happiness is a Learning Center" child care. Her first business in Tulsa soon expanded into multiple locations in northeast Oklahoma, she had child care centers in Afton, Cleora, Vinita, and also a second Tulsa location. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Opal Giggy, Mo, and Barbara (Jean) Cauldron, and son William Ashford, Jr. The family includes: her husband Jerry Young, Sr. of the home, her children, Robert Gene "Bobby" Ashford and wife Chotsy of Magnolia, Texas, Jo Ellen Crossland and husband Joe of Afton, Jerry Richard "Peanut" Young, Jr. and wife Courtney of Tulsa; grandchildren, Josh Grafton, Melissa Hartwick, Justin Ashford, Lydia Cochran, William Ashford, Ky Young, Zane Young, Cooper Gibson, Ty Bird, Grant Crossland; and eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Vivian Roundy of Portidge, Wisconsin, Theodore Garveston of McCurtain, OK, Barbara Ellen Elliott of Atoka, OK, and Della Davis of Kansas, OK. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Grace Point United Methodist Church in Cleora, with Pastor Larry Sanders officiating.
