Gene Ison

Gene Ison, passed away at his home in Grove, OK, on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2013 at the age of 86. Gene was born in Muskogee, OK on May 10, 1927 to Gene Ison Sr. and Pearl Ison. The Isons moved to Missouri when Gene was young. Gene attended high school in Windsor, MO and graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, MO. Shortly after graduating in 1945, Gene entered the U.S. Naval Reserve and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. Upon leaving the military service in 1946, Gene attended Kansas City, MO Junior College where he graduated in 1948 with an Associate of Science degree. He worked summers for the Missouri State Highway Department and entered the University of Missouri- Columbia where he graduated in 1950 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He was member of Tai Beta Pi, National Honorary Engineering fraternity, and Chi Epsilon, National Honorary Civil Engineering fraternity. After graduating, Gene was employed by Phillips Pipe Line Company in pipeline and truck transportation of crude oil and petroleum products. He served in engineering and supervisory capacities in Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. He was later Vice-President and General Manager of OKC Pipeline., at Oklahoma City, OK. Gene married Mary Elizabeth Eatherly in 1954. From that union came three daughters, Carol Jean, Cathy Lynn, and Elizabeth Ann. Gene received Jesus Christ as savior in 1980 and was baptized at Crossroads Cathedral in Oklahoma City, OK. In 1984 Gene began work at Tinker Air Force Base in the Engineering Department as a Project Programmer. He retired in 1995. Gene enjoyed sports and is a long-time fisherman. He was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his family. In 1984 Gene met Carol Ann Golden and they were married in 1985. They resided in Oklahoma City where they attended First United Methodist Church until February 2000 when they moved to Grove, OK. They have been part of Cornerstone Church and NewSong Church since living in Grove. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Gene Ison, Sr. and Pearl Cocks, and his step-father, Edward L. Cocks. Gene is survived by his wife Carol Ann Ison of their home in Grove, OK; one brother, Lannie Cocks and wife Pat of Branson, MO; beloved children, Carol J. Hughes and husband Wayne of San Diego, CA; Cathy L. Snyder of Dayton, OH; Elizabeth A. Myers and husband Jack of Henderson, NV; Gary D. Golden and wife Dawn of Newalla, OK; David Golden of Oklahoma City, OK; Christy G. Brown and husband Darren of Vinita, OK; treasured grandchildren Erin Easterly and husband Chappell of San Marcos, CA; Lindsey Sunde and husband Adam of Orlando, FL; Katie Lynn Golden of Oklahoma City, OK; Ashley Nicole Brown of Van Buren, AR; precious great grandchildren, Christian Rodriguez, Eden, Kaleigha, Adlyn and Ada Easterly of San Marcos, CA. The funeral service will be held at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 2PM with Pastor Marty Dyer and Pastor Steve Dyer, presiding. The burial will be held at the Resthaven Garden Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 2PM. The family will greet friends from 7PM to 9PM at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, OK on Friday, July 5, 2013.
