Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, Oklahoma - 918-273-2700 Mr. Fred Teufel, age 91, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Osage Nursing Home in Nowata, Oklahoma. Graveside services for Mr. Teufel will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery and will be under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Services of Nowata. Officiating will be Pastor Wendell Abbott of the Nowata First Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds can be made in Fred's name to the American Heart Association. P.O. Box 841125, Dallas Texas, 75284-1125. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Mr. Teufel was born in Delaware, Oklahoma on April 29, 1925 to George and Olive May (Morris) Teufel. He attended the Delaware and Nowata Public School Systems. During his early years, Fred worked as a cowboy, mending fences, herding and branding cattle and at times helping with the wheat and hay harvest. He worked on several Nowata County ranches and a couple of ranches in the State of Texas. Fred later moved to Colorado where he began a successful professional rodeo bull riding career, winning many belt buckles and saddles. Fred left the rodeo circuit and went to work in the public sector for Coleman Company, Inc. located in Wichita, Kansas. Later, he worked at the Boeing Aircraft Plant in Wichita, Kansas where he worked until his retirement at the age of 70. Fred was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wichita and in 1995 moved back to the Nowata area. Fred enjoyed rodeos and loved riding bulls. He was a member of the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Fred enjoyed dancing and listening to Bob Wills music. He loved children and talking to people. He never met a stranger and would take the time to talk and socialize with everyone he met. Any one driving past his home in Nowata could tell he loved gardening and flowers. His yard and gardens were always kept very neat and beautiful. Preceding Fred in death are his parents, George and Olive Teufel, a son, Keith Teufel, siblings, James Earl Teufel, Emory Teufel, Martin Smith, Jerome Smith, Ada Teufel, Georgia Mae Allen, Iva Adams, and a special friend Virginia Kime. Fred is survived by his companion of many years, Juanita Moody of Nowata; Bill Teufel of Wichita, Kansas, Melvin Teufel and his wife Chris of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Derrick, Andrew, and Alicia Teufel; one great grandchild; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is also survived by special friends Billy Hewitt, Jeanie Hewitt, and Charlotte Dausses.
