Frank L. Payton, passed away at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the age of 73. Frank was born November 10, 1939 in Scraper, OK, the son of the late Ross Payton and Lenora (Thompson) Payton. Frank grew up in the Spavinaw creek area. He graduated from Jay High School in 1958. After school, Frank joined the United States Army serving his country during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, Frank married Wanda Gooding and to this union of 25 years four boys were born. In the late 1960's Frank obtained his bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. In his early years of work, Frank worked construction and farmed. On April 24, 1991 he married Marilyn Studie in Miami, OK. In 1993 Frank opened up his Tire shop in Jay, OK. Frank enjoyed shooting pool, playing board games, horseshoes, and listening to gospel music. He had a very special buddy, Lacey, that he said kept him alive. Frank would travel anywhere to watch her play softball. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Lloyd Payton and Ross Leon Payton; and two sisters: Bonnie Mitchell and Arteh Payton. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home; his four sons: Curtis Payton of Jay, OK, Ron Payton and his wife Kelly of West Siloam Springs, AR, Leon Payton and his wife Sherry of Gulf Shores, AL, and Jason Payton of Jay, OK; two daughters: Brenda Rowe of Grove, OK, and Stacy Leach and her husband Chris of Jay, OK; one brother Larry Payton; one sister Linda Kissaire; one brother-in-law Bill Mitchell; one grandchild that Frank and Marilyn raised Norman Keys; 23 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at the First Assembly of God in Jay, OK on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 12PM with Pastor Stanley Grass, presiding. The burial will follow at Jumper Cemetery in Jay, OK. The family will greet friends from 6PM to 8PM at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, OK on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
