BENJAMIN FUNERAL SERVICE, NOWATA, OK (918)273-2700***Frances Helen Crain, 92, a resident of Bartlesville for many years, passed away April 26, 2018 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Frances was born April 7, 1926 to Edna Mae (Lambert) and Simon Henry "Bud" Stalcup in Red Oak, Oklahoma. She graduated from Red Oak High School in May 1943 and married Hansel Eaves "Hank" Hawkins in Red Oak on July 9,1943. Her son Joe Hansel "Joe Hank" Hawkins was born November 1, 1944 in McAlester, Oklahoma, and her daughter Edna Suzanne "Anne" Hawkins was born October 29, 1946 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Frances and her children moved from Red Oak to Casper, Wyoming in January, 1949. They then moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in late 1955, and she began working for Phillips Petroleum Company in January, 1956. She transferred to Phillips Fibers in Greenville, South Carolina in 1968, returning to Bartlesville in 1976. Frances married James Crain on June 16, 1977 in Washington County Oklahoma. She retired from Phillips Petroleum Company in 1985 and made three trips to Europe after retirement where she especially enjoyed visiting every cathedral she could. After retirement, she began college studies at Rogers State University, becoming a member of the National Honor Society and graduating with an AA degree. She continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, obtaining a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in December, 2000, at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her husband James Crain, her parents, and two brothers, William Joseph Stalcup and Simon Henry Stalcup, Jr. Survivors include: her son Joe Hawkins and his wife Charolette, of Bartlesville, their daughter JJ Grilliette and her husband Craig of Allen, Texas, and their son Jeff Hawkins and his wife Becky of Bartlesville. Frances is also survived by her daughter Suzanne Merrill and her husband Michael of Tulsa, Suzanne's daughter Dr. Lauren Johnson of Tulsa, and Suzanne's son James Peak and his wife, Leslie of Woodway, Texas. Other survivors include her great grandchildren Haylee Hawkins (19), Jayden Grilliette (16), Ellery Johnson (15), TJ Hawkins (13), Isaac Johnson (13), and Erik Peak (2).
