Esther Kay

Esther Kay of Big Cabin passed away Monday, February 27th. Esther Clarice Lorene Mabery Kay was born to Charles and Osa Mabery on January 30th, 1921 in Vinita. She graduated from Big Cabin High School in 1939. Later that year she married Gene Kay and they settled into farming and ranching. Esther supported the war effort by working in the DuPont gunpowder plant. During the mid-forties Gene answered the call to ministry and Esther became the consummate "preacher's wife", filling the role with dignity, style and grace. They served EUB and United Methodist churches in Hayward, Woodward, Tulsa, Mooreland, Oklahoma City and Okmulgee until returning to the Big Cabin area in 1985 to minister at Otterbein and enjoy "retirement". Esther was passionate about horses and art. She inspired and amused many with her chalk drawings and "cartoon" letters. Always the entertainer, she continued her "animated" ways to the end. She was preceded in death by Gene and beloved daughter Jeanne and is survived by son Joe and wife Katie of Edmonds, Wa., grandson Brant of Shoreline, Wa and granddaughter Kelsey of Los Angeles, Ca. Her loving companion Rev. Marvin Polson survives, as do a host of long-time in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. The family requests that any memorial donations in Esther's name be made to Otterbein UMC, PO Box 280, Langley, Ok. 74350 Memorial services are set for Saturday, March 10th at 1:00p at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 35951 S 4440 Rd, Vinita.
