Well known Vinita physician Edward Wayne Allensworth MD passed away August 31, 2020 in Vinita, at the age of eighty-four. He was born April 01, 1936 in Bristow, Oklahoma the son of Robert Frank Allensworth and Eva Adele “Harkins” Allensworth. He graduated from Bristow High School in 1954, attended School in Edmond at Central State University where he graduated in three years in 1957. He was accepted into OU Medical School in Oklahoma City where he graduated with MD in 1961. He served his residency in Tulsa at St. Johns Hospital. Ed held the prestigious honor of making the highest grade at that time on the Oklahoma state medical licensing exam. For his residency he worked at the Louis P. Long Charity Hospital in Pineville, Louisiana. On June 8, 1957, he married the love of his life Reba Rosella Cash in Bristow. They moved to Vinita, Oklahoma where he lived the rest of his life. Dr. Allensworth was a member of First United Methodist Church, Vinita Rotary, and a Master Mason with Vinita Masonic Lodge Number 5, a member Akdar Shrine, Tulsa Consistory, and the Royal Order of The Jesters in Tulsa. He was a member of Craig-Ottawa-Delaware County Medical Society, American Medical Association, Oklahoma Medical Association and Southern Medical Association. Ed’s Favorite pastime was hunting and fishing. He was asked his philosophy in life and said I always did the best job I could do; greatest accomplishment delivered 2500 babies and being able to take care of his family and friends.
Dr. Allensworth was preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife Reba in 2018, and a brother Bob Allensworth in 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Edward (Eddy) Allensworth and wife Shelly, and Roy Allensworth both of Vinita; grandchildren, Elizabeth Adele O'Rear and husband Michael of Stillwater, OK, Dr. Nicholas (Cash) Allensworth of Edmond, OK, Andrew Allensworth of Franklin, Tennessee and Madeline Allensworth of Williston, North Dakota. One great grandchild, Caroline Rose O'Rear of Stillwater, OK.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 3, 2020, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday, September 4, 2020, 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. The family will receive friends Friday, September 4, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be Saturday, September 05, 2020, at 2:00 pm, First United Methodist Church, Vinita, with Rev. Andrew Haire and Pastor Skip McClain officiating the interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
