Edna Mcbee

Edna Maureen McBee went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2009, at Vinita, Oklahoma. She is survived by three sons, Warren McBee and wife Karol of Merritt Island, Florida, Marvin McBee and wife Judy of Hollis, Oklahoma, Douglas McBee and wife Paula of Norman, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Felicia Morley, Scott McBee, Greg McBee, Christopher McBee and Kimberly McBee; four great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother, Clara Rush of Fredrick, Maryland, Ruth Hudson of Winter Haven, Florida, Don Thompson and wife Jean of Kansas City, Missouri, and Nola Spooner and husband Don of Crocker City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, three brothers and four sisters, LeVoy "Lee" Thompson, Mary Landon, Everett Thompson, Jr., Nellie Milton, Kenneth Thompson, Nira Hodge and Christine Snyder. Edna was born December 11, 1917 in Carthage, Missouri, the fifth of twelve children born to Everett Thompson, Sr., and Edna Stone Thompson. She was a Carthage High School graduate and attended Joiner School of Commerce in Carthage. She and sisters Clara and Ruth joined their eldest sister Mary in Washington, D.C., where Edna did secretarial work for two and a half years at the Veterans Administration and Social Security Administration before returning home to marry Charles W. McBee on June 12, 1941. The family moved to Vinita in 1960 where Charles served as pastor at First Baptist Church for nineteen years before retiring in Vinita. In addition, Edna worked at Southeast Elementary in Vinita for eleven and a half years as school secretary, volunteered regularly with Red Cross blood drives in Vinita, was active in the Craig County Retired Educators Association, and served in her church, singing in the church choir and later the Silvertones, working in the nursery and helping in the media center. Memorial Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Vinita, Oklahoma, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 18, with graveside services at Park Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri, at 2:30 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church, Vinita, nursery fund.
