Dorothy Epperson

October 23, 1922 — August 28, 2015

Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, Oklahoma...................... Dorothy L. Epperson, 92, passed away on August 28th, 2015 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Dorothy was born October 23, 1922 to Ella Rogers Hansen and Martin Hansen in Skiatook, Oklahoma. Dorothy graduated from Nowata High School in 1940 and began working at McClellan's shortly thereafter. It was at McClellan's where she first met her future husband, Glen "G.E." Epperson. Dorothy and Glen were united in marriage on July 31, 1947. They had one beloved daughter, Glenda Elaine. Dorothy loved working outside the home. Some of her fondest memories and favorite stories came from her time as a Bell Telephone operator and a bank teller at First National Bank in Nowata. Glen and Dorothy also enjoyed camping with their family and special Elm Bend friends. They pulled their trailer to numerous places in Colorado and Missouri, but their favorite times were spent at Bernice Point on Grand Lake. Dorothy had a servant's heart and was a lifelong member of Hillside Christian Church. She was active with her JOY Sunday School class and enjoyed working with the Decorating Committee. In the early 90s, Dorothy began volunteering more frequently. She delivered "meals on wheels" with the Senior Citizen's Center and drove weekly to the Claremore Veterans Center with her "Nowata Crew". They racked up 1000s of volunteer hours in the clothing and recreational rooms. After G.E. passed away, Dorothy began traveling quite a bit with her family and friends. She visited Hawaii, Disney World, the Grand Canyon, Mexico and even whitewater rafted the Cumberland River in Kentucky with her granddaughter, Heather Driskill Griffin. "Memaw", as her granddaughter and great grandsons, Cole and Cade, called her, had a love for life and her family. She enjoyed listening to music, reading, sewing and quilting. She handstitched many heirloom quilts the family will cherish always. Her fun loving personality and her zeal for life are memories and traits that will live on in our hearts forever. Survivors include: daughter, Glenda Driskill and son-in-law, Phillip, of Wagoner; grand-daughter, Heather Driskill Griffin and husband, JT, two great grandsons, Cole Driskill Griffin and Cade Glen Griffin, of Coweta. Dorothy also leaves behind several family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Glen E. Epperson. Funeral services for Dorothy are 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Hillside Christian Church with Ben Killion officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.
