Donald Ray Giles, 71, of Vinita, passed away on Sunday September 3, 2006 at his home after a 6 year battle with cancer. Born on January 14, 1935 in Vinita, to Charles and Anna Louise (Coppedge) Giles, he was the oldest of 5 children. Don graduated Vinita High School in 1953, and spent three years farming with his dad. He then served his country in the Army from 1957 to 1959 being stationed in Ulm, Germany. In 1961 he received an honorable discharge from the Army National Guard of Oklahoma. On Aug. 25, 1960, Don was married to Anita Louise Smith. They were blessed with 3 children, Donna, Debbie and David. Don retired in 1997 from Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative after 29 years service as the Vinita area Supervisor. He spent many days of his retirement helping the cowboys on the Robson Ranch gather cattle and at the Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Sale on Wednesdays sorting cattle before becoming ill. He loved furnishing calves for the CCYRA kids and helping with their rodeos. Don accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord and was a faithful member of the First Church of God. He served on the Board of Trustees and was always available if something was needed. He is was preceded in death by his son-David Giles, his parents, his mother-in-law; Marjorie Smith, Brothers-in-law; Tony Collins, Frank Copeland and Gary R. Smith. He is survived by his wife -Anita 2 Daughters and Sons-in-law; Donna and Rick Hensley of Vinita Debbie and Ron Johnson of Vinita. 2 Grandsons; Cory Hensley of Vinita Coby Hensley of Vinita Brother and Sister-in-law; John and Diana Giles of Vinita Sisters; Elizabeth Morgan of Tulsa Linda Copeland of Vinita Jan Hinds of Vinita Sister-in-law; Jan Collins of Ketchum Father-in-law; Louis Smith of Big Cabin Family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Cowboy Junction Church with Rev. Eddie Wrinkle and Dr. Wade Markham officiating. Final resting place will be in the Big Cabin Cemetery. Memorials may be made the First Church of God in Vinita or to the Gideon Bible Foundation. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
