Dixie Lee Alf, age 81, a resident of Bartlesville died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at her home in Bartlesville. Dixie Lee Alf was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, September 27, 1925, the daughter of Carl A. Hoffman and Evalyn (Walker) Hoffman. She was raised and educated in Denver, Colorado graduating from East High. She received her bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Denver. After college she was employed with Western Airlines for four years as a stewardess. Dixie Lee Alf and John T. Alf were united in marriage on October 15, 1951. Dixie and John moved to Bartlesville where he was employed with the Phillips Petroleum Company. Dixie had an avid interest in earth science with a particular emphasis on petrified wood. She was active in many organizations and served a term as Secretary of the Oklahoma State Council of Mineralogical Societies; she also served a term as President of the Rocky Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies, and was a member of the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society. Following retirement Dixie and John enjoyed traveling with visits to Africa, Hawaii, Alaska, Fiji, New Zealand, New Guinea and multiple visits to Australia. Dixie Lee Alf is survived by her husband John T. Alf, one son Gerald Alf of Bartlesville, one daughter Bonnie Baxter of Bartlesville and three grandchildren Kirsten, Connor and Cooper Baxter all of Bartlesville. Mrs. Alf was preceded in death by her parents Carl A. Hoffman and Evalyn (Walker) Hoffman and one daughter Karen Alf. A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association Oklahoma Chapter and those who wish to contribute may do so in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association Oklahoma Chapter, 6465 South Yale Ave, Suite 312 Tulsa, Oklahoma 74136. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with The Rev. Robert Evans officiating. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp -Luginbuel Funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
