David Merrill Landers 56 year-old Vinita resident, died late Tuesday evening October 10, 2006 at the Muskogee Veterans Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born October 12, 1949 in Vinita to Edward and Edna (Pilant) Landers. David served his country during the Vietnam era, in the United States Army from 1969 to 1975. David was a member of the Grove D.A.V. #19 and the Calvary Baptist Church. He loved to fish and spend time with his grandchildren. The family includes: his daughter Yvette Schaus and her husband Trevor of Las Vegas, NV; his mother, Edna Landers of Vinita; four sisters, Helen Parker of Oklahoma City, Barbara Armstrong of Wagoner, Sharon Schmitz of Nixa, MO, and Sandy Gandy of Sallisaw; two brothers, Ronnie Washington and Chris Landers both of Vinita; three grandchildren, Jason, Ricky and Jacob Schaus; also a very special friend Lisa Scott of Vinita. Preceding him in death were his father, Edward Landers and a brother, Larry Landers. The graveside service will be held Friday, October 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Timpson Chapel Cemetery northwest of Vinita, with Pastor Justin Turner officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Luginbuel Funeral Home. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
