Jay, OK - Clarence Vernon Lawson, 80, died early Tuesday morning, October 10, 2006 at Integris Grove General Hospital. Vernon was born October 15, 1925 at Yukon, Oklahoma to Clarence David Lawson and Hazel (Kissick) Lawson. He married Evelyn Mae Roberts on June 11, 1946. Vernon served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. The Lawsons lived in Grove, Oklahoma early in their marriage, later moving to Owasso, Oklahoma, where Mr. Lawson worked for Dr. Glass. The couple moved to Jay, Oklahoma and began dairy farming there. In 1959, the Lawsons were recognized as Farm Family of the Year and Mae was awarded Farm Woman of the Year, achievements Vernon was quite proud of. He was also a proud member and supporter of the Jay VFW. Survivors are two daughters, Sharron Swann of Austin, Texas, Ann Kirby of Owasso, Oklahoma; two sons, Gene Lawson & his wife, Jerri of Jay, Oklahoma and Kenny Lawson & his wife, Kathy of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; one sister, Ruth Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Mae in 1987 and by two brothers, Kenneth and Darrell Lawson. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Yukon Cemetery, Yukon, Oklahoma with Pastor Roy Jaye officiating. Visitation for Mr. Lawson will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, Oklahoma. Family suggests friends who wish, give to the American Cancer Society in memory of Vernon.
