Clara May Bryant, age 90, formerly from the Vinita area, died May 31, 2009 at Lancaster, California. She was born to Loren S. Potter and Emma V. (Birge) Potter on May 2, 1919 at Drumright, Oklahoma. The family moved to Colcord in Delaware County, Oklahoma in June, 1930 and to Craig County, Oklahoma in June, 1935. Clara attended schools at Drumright and in the Colcord area. Before her marriage to Cecil Bryant in 1938, she had worked at the Court House Annex in Vinita making clothing and bedding for people caught up in the Great Depression. After her marriage, she lived in Arizona, Oklahoma, and in Orange County, California from 1942 to 1946. Cecil was drafted into military service early in 1944. Clara lived in and around Vinita from 1946 to 1948 , in Albuquerque, New Mexico until 1960 when she returned to Orange County, California and worked as an electronics assembler for various companies until she moved to Cypress, Texas , 1977-1983, finally returning to live on the high desert at Lancaster, California until her death. Clara is survived by one son, Dennis Lee Bryant, of Lancaster, California; two brothers…..Samuel Dean Potter of Vinita and Charles William Potter of Cypress, Texas. She was preceded in death by infant son, Gilbert Bryant; her husband, Cecil serving in Patton's Third Army, KIA in November, 1944 at Metz, Lorraine, France, and five sisters, Catherine Marie Potter, Maxine Faye Pendergraft, Mildred Ruth Davis, Ocie Bonnie Cambron and Lola Gertrude Bayless. Graveside services will be at 10 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Mt. Hope Cemetery at Afton, Oklahoma with Mr. Ralph King officiating under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
