Boyd Talley Boyd Gayle Talley of Tulsa died Sunday June 25, 2006 at the Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove. He was 82. Boyd was born March 16, 1924 to Harvey and Myrtle (Tregemba) Talley at Windom, Ks. He graduated from Overbrook Ks. High School in 1942 then enrolled at the University of Kansas on a football scholarship. His education was interrupted with a call to serve his country in the United States Army during WWII. When he completed his service he continued his education at Ottawa University, Ottawa, Ks. under the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1949 with majors in social science and physical education and a minor in biological science and entered the coaching and teaching profession. In 1958 he completed his M.S. degree in guidance and counseling at Kansas State University. He was on the staff at Independence Ks Community College from 1958-1971, serving as dean. He continued in the Reserve Corps and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1977. During this time he received the Army Commendation Medal for outstanding service. He moved to Tulsa in 1972 and was Director of Tulsa County Head Start and Director of the Tulsa Area Agency on Aging and retired from that field. The Tulsa mayor proclaimed January 12, 1990 as Boyd G. Talley Day in recognition of his service to the City. Boyd was inducted into the Ottawa Kansas University Braves Hall of Fame in football and track in 1998. He was a board member of Reaching Hands Inc., lifetime member and past president of the Military Officers Assoc. of America, American Legion, Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, lifetime member of the Reserve Officers Assoc, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grove. He married Dortha "Dot" Dollison Erbe April 21, 1972. He was previously married to Naomi Jacobus Ayres. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Talley. Survivors include his wife Dot Talley of Grove and Tulsa; four children: DeWayne Talley and Pat of Bonita Springs, Fl., Robert Talley and wife Basia of Ft. Meyers, Fl., Harvey Talley of Milton Fl., and Diane Murphy of Owasso, Ok. Three step children: Larry Erbe of Owasso, Ok., Neil Erbe of Tulsa, Ok., and Diane Erbe Scott of Sand Springs, Ok. One sister: Claire Talley Davis of Williamsburg, Ks. Nine grandchildren: Kirstin Talley, Lancer Scott, Tallie Murphy Craigo, Benjamin Murphy, Russell Erbe, Krystal Erbe Branch, Brandi Erbe Honey, Jeremy Garrison, and Joshua Garrison. Nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 AM Friday June 30, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Grove, Ok. with Randall Hamill officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be 3:30 PM Friday at the Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Ok. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Donations may be made to Reaching Hands, Inc. or the Junior R.O.T.C.
