Betty Parks

Joyce Parks, 83, resident of Hominy, Oklahoma passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at her home. She was born February 12, 1929 in Dewey, Oklahoma to Clyde "Spud" and Elva Katherine "Kate" Whittenburg. Joyce attended school in Dewey and graduated in 1948. She married the love of her life, John L. "Jack" Parks on October 26, 1950. Joyce was a member of the New Hope Indian Methodist Church in Dewey. She served as the former president of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority in Hominy and belonged to the Independent Osage Oil Producers Association. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing and taking care of her longhorn cattle and chickens. Joyce especially loved her family, family meant everything to her. She always looked forward to taking family trips and spending time with her kids and grandchildren. Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Dynda Post and her husband, Robert of Catoosa, Lisa Nation and her husband, Tom of Sand Springs, Robyn Venable and her husband, David of Sapulpa; one son, John Clayton Parks, II of Hominy; nine grandchildren, Bradley Venable, Amy Venable, Brian Venable and his wife, Ashley, John Leon Parks, II, Joel Clayton Parks and his wife, Megan, Lacy Post, Susannah Post, Drew Brown and his wife, Somer and Danya Kokojan and her husband, Joe; one great granddaughter, Delaney Brown; one sister, Peggy Cunningham and her husband, Lester of Huntsville, Alabama; brother-in-law, Darrell Parks and his wife, Priscilla of Muskogee; sister-in-law, Margie Frisbie and her husband, Russell of Oklahoma City; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Dewey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the New Hope Indian Methodist Church in Dewey. Interment will be in the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Arnold Moore Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Indian Methodist Church, 1238 N. Choctaw Street, Dewey, Oklahoma 74029.
