Alta Irene Stager, 88, of Nowata passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. She was born January 3, 1926 in Lyman, OK to Nettie Olga (Rogers) and Dewey Edward Buck. She graduated from Lyman High School and became a telephone operator in Oregon. She moved to Nowata in 1967 where she continued working for Southwestern Bell and in 1968 she married Richard F. Stager. Alta enjoyed reading and studying her bible. She had several versions of the bible that she studied and compared scriptures. She loved to walk and keep herself physically fit. One of her favorite things to do was sing with the Golden Notes at the First Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for many years. She loved people and her church family. Mrs. Stager will be missed by all who knew her. Alta is survived by a sister, Julia Anderson and twelve nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard; seven siblings, Avis King, Evelyn Cox, Henry L. Buck, Wilbur Buck, Norma (Angie) Wickliffe, Dewey Buck, Nadine Thomas.
