Alpha Summerfield

Alpha Claudine Summerfield, 89 years young passed from this life and into the arms of the Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 28, 2013. Her passing was brought on from congestive heart complications and GOD calling her home to Heaven. She has been a resident of Delaware County all of her life. Claudine was born on July 9, 1924 in the Fairland, Oklahoma countryside. She was the 3rd of 8 children born to the union of Thomas Porter Baker and Maggie Lola (Cox) Baker. Her siblings are: Ella Arrahwanna (Baker) Hill, Ruby LaRue (Baker) Kegg, James Lloyd Baker, Logan Porter Baker, Coffee Divillers (Bill) Baker, Richard Lee Baker, Okleay LuWayne (Baker) Rogers, all of whom have preceded her in death, except for Bill and Okleay. Claudine always said "Dad and Mom helped raise Porter's brothers and sisters, and we were always prepared to move for it happened almost yearly". Claudine married Drake Summerfield on January 8, 1943 at the Delaware County Courthouse because Drake had to return to the service the next day and finish his tour of duty. After his return, two children were added to this union, a son, Benny Lawrence in April of 1946 and a daughter Linda Joyce in February of 1948. Claudine was always a homemaker, Drake's helper, and a babysitter for the neighbors and relatives. Most were under her care from diapers until after school age and it is an honor to mention a few: Remington Cole Rogers, Parker Boone Rogers, Tyler Blair Rogers, Kylie Maynard and Mindy Morris, all of whom became very close and nicknamed her "Dee, Dee". Claudine was preceded in death by her spouse, Drake and a granddaughter, Candace Joy (Gordon) Cooper. She is survived by a brother (Bill) in Idaho, a sister (Okleay) of Jay; both children (Benny and Linda of Jay, their spouses: Judy Mae (Mullin) Summerfield and Carrol Gene Gordon; 4 grandchildren Delala Lynn January, Valerie Renee Spiller, Chandra Dawn Jeffries, and Larry Joe Summerfield. She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren; Trenton Chase January, Catrina Joyce Gordon, Timothy Paul Atwood, Trevor Bryce January, Stephen Drake Summerfield, Cody Lane Spiller, Treyson Micheal January, James Talon Summerfield, Trestin Gene January, Chandler Renee Atwood, Faith Victoria Summerfield and numerous nieces and nephews on the Baker and Summerfield sides of the family. A visitation for family and fiends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 4, 2013 at the Assembly of God Church in Jay, Oklahoma with Reverend Junior Mullin officiating.
