Alma Lee Parret-Nitz, 86-year-old Nowata resident, passed away at 7:30p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Nowata Nursing Center. Funeral services for Mrs. Nitz will be held at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with Dr. Larry DeLay and rev. Bill Busch officiating. Interment will follow in the Martin Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home. On-Line condolences can be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Alma Lee Nitz was born August 31, 1919 at Coody's Bluff, Oklahoma as the daughter of Chester Lee Parret and Mamie Louella Thornbrugh-Parret. She attended the Childers School and graduated with the Class of 1939. On December 24, 1938 she married Harold F. "Arkie" Nitz. Mrs. Nitz worked for Gilbert Shoes and for McClellans for several years, and later was the Secretary for the First Baptist Church until her retirement in 1988. Mrs. Nitz enjoyed needlework and doing "Seek and Find" puzzles. She also loved reading and singing in the church choir. Mrs. Nitz was a loving mother and grandmother who was quite well known in her church circle and family circle for her chocolate chip cookies. Surviving Mrs. Nitz are two daughters, Patricia Schaffer and her husband Tom of Nowata and Rebecca "Becky" Sabelo and her husband Frank of Nowata; by three sons, Jim Nitz of Tulsa, Jerry Nitz and his wife Veronica "Connie" of Olathe, Kansas, and John Nitz and his wife Betty of Ennis, Texas; by one sister, Wilma Embree of Claremore; by one sister-in-law, Delia Parret of Nowata; by one brother-in-law Ralph Nitz and his wife Betty of Springfield, Missouri; by 19 grandchildren; by 26 great-grandchildren; by 6 step-great grandchildren; by 3 step-great-great grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews; she was also a Special Nana to Kenna Koger. Mrs. Nitz was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Harold Nitz; by her parents Chester and Mamie; by five brothers, Austin, Orville, Walter, Jack, and Claudie; by three sisters, Mabel Thomas, Nora Parret, and Ada Hagan; by twin great-grandchildren, Roze and Elizabeth Hicks; by grandson, Richard Schaffer; and by a daughter-in-law, Cookie Nitz.
